What we collect
- Google account: when you sign in, your Google account ID, email address and display name.
- Photos you save: a sticker — the animal cut out of your photo on your phone, without its background — and the photo itself (1024 px, with its background), which only you can see. Both are re-encoded on your phone before upload, which removes EXIF metadata including GPS tags. Cutting out the animal, suggesting what kind of animal it is and checking for faces all happen on your phone; your photos are never sent to an outside AI service. On the website (strayling.quabbit.app) the same steps run inside your browser: the cut-out and face-check models are downloaded from our site and run locally, and only the finished sticker and the re-encoded photo are uploaded. The website keeps your sign-in and its pictures in your browser's storage (local storage and cache) until you sign out or clear them.
- Neighbourhood: an H3 cell (resolution 8, about 0.7 km²) computed on your phone from its location. We store the cell and its center point. We never receive or store your precise location.
- Characters: kind of animal, the sticker filter you chose, name and the time of day (morning, afternoon, …) you saved them.
- Encounters: when you tap “I met it too”, your phone sends its current neighbourhood cell only to check that you are in that neighbourhood. We keep the day, the time of day and the cell of an encounter (and its new sticker, if you made one) — never your precise location. If you add a photo, its sticker joins that character's album for other users after the same public delay; the photo with its background is only visible to you. You can delete it at any time, and photos reported by several people are hidden.
- Profile: an optional nickname and one of the app's animal drawings, shown next to your encounters. With "Show me as an anonymous walker" others see neither.
What is public
Characters you save are shown on the public map, grouped by neighbourhood, starting a while (by default 60 minutes) after you save them, so the map cannot be used to follow someone in real time. The sticker, name, neighbourhood and time of day of a character are visible to other users. The photo with its background is never shown to anyone but you.
Where it is stored
Data is stored on Amazon Web Services in the Seoul region (ap-northeast-2).
Deleting your data
You can delete your account and the data linked to it at any time in the app (My sticker book → settings → Delete account) or at strayling.quabbit.app/account/delete.
